Hong Kong's Catholics worry that new national security legislation may allow Beijing to bug confessionals, imprison priests, or send spies to entrap the clergy. New legislation, referred to as Article 23, introduces vaguely defined crimes including treason, sabotage, sedition, and espionage. Despite the concerns, Hong Kong's Diocese assures that the secrecy of confession will be maintained under the new law.
