South Carolina dog groomer Mary Wilson lost her hand after passing out on a running hairdryer, which caused severe third-degree burns and nerve damage. Due to the extent of the injuries, doctors amputated her hand and wrist. Wilson believes the lack of an automatic shut-off feature in the hairdryer contributed to her accident and has since called for such systems to be implemented in hairdryers to prevent future incidents.
