2024 Indonesia dry season expected less severe than 2023 due to a different weather pattern.
Indonesia's 2024 dry season is expected to be less severe compared to 2023, according to the country's weather agency, BMKG. Last year's dry season, caused by an El Niño weather phenomenon, led to droughts, forest fires, and a record-high 1.16 million hectares of forest burns. This year's dry season will start later in May and June for Java and parts of Borneo and Sulawesi, peaking in July-August. From September, a weak La Niña weather pattern will bring more rainfall to the region, improving conditions.
