40-year-old Joseph Gene Hoek faces the death penalty in South Dakota for the murder of Moody County Chief Deputy Ken Prorok during a police chase.

South Dakota prosecutors will seek the death penalty for a Sioux Falls man charged in the death of a deputy who was struck while putting out spikes during a police chase. Joseph Gene Hoek, 40, faces the death penalty in the death of Moody County Chief Deputy Ken Prorok, 51, who died during a pursuit on February 2. Hoek has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder and aggravated eluding.
