South Dakota AG declares officer-involved shooting at Sioux Falls gas station justified, citing suspect's erratic behavior, firearm near hostage, and history of mental illness and drug use.

South Dakota Attorney General's Office declared an officer-involved shooting at a Sioux Falls gas station on July 3 justified. Suspect Daniel Augustine fired at a cop, took a clerk hostage, and acted erratically. After negotiation efforts, a Minnehaha County Sheriff's Deputy shot and killed Augustine. The Attorney General cited the suspect's erratic behavior, firearm near the hostage, and history of mental illness and drug use as factors justifying lethal force.
