2-year-old Awaab Ishak's death in Birmingham sparks a sixfold increase in damp and mould complaints in social housing.
Birmingham sees a sixfold increase in damp and mould complaints in social housing following the tragic death of 2-year-old Awaab Ishak. The Housing Ombudsman Service intervened in 128 complaints about leaks, damp, and mould in the city last year, compared to 20 in 2020. Yorkshire and the North West of England have the worst housing conditions in the country, with tenants in these areas almost twice as likely to live in homes that do not meet the Decent Homes Standard.
