In Melbourne's northeast, a Victoria Police officer shot and killed a 26-year-old woman who was stabbing her 53-year-old mother. Acting Superintendent Scott Colson defended the officer's actions, stating they were confronted with a "terrible dilemma" and acted appropriately within their training and guidelines. The mother had already died of her stab wounds before the officer fired. The homicide squad will investigate the incident under Victoria Police's professional standards command.
