Nevada State Police identified a cold case homicide victim more than 40 years after the discovery of his remains, with the help of advanced DNA testing. The remains, found in 1980 near Tonopah, Nevada, were identified in December 2023 as Albert Matas of Commerce, California. The investigation into Matas' death revealed he was last seen in September 1978, and the cause of death was determined to be homicide via multiple gunshot wounds. The case remains ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Nevada State Police- Investigation Division.
