Eddy Walter Cliffe, a First Nation man, won his application for a publicly funded lawyer to appeal his 21-month jail sentence for arson on Wei Wai Kum First Nation land. Cliffe argued that he had already been punished by the Campbell River-area nation by being banned from the reserve. The appeal of his sentence is considered "arguable" by the Court of Appeal of B.C.
