French authorities have expelled a Tunisian imam, Mahjoub Mahjoubi, for allegedly making "unacceptable remarks" about the French flag and promoting a "retrograde, intolerant, and violent image of Islam." The imam, who had been living in France since the 1980s, was arrested and deported to Tunisia, where he denounced his removal as "arbitrary" and announced plans to take legal action to overturn the decision.
