Iran has condemned Meta's removal of Ayatollah Khamenei's Facebook and Instagram accounts, calling it a "violation of freedom of expression". Instagram and Facebook are popular platforms in Iran, despite the government blocking their use. Meta said it had removed Khamenei's accounts for violating its policy on "dangerous organisations and individuals". Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian called the move "not only a violation of freedom of speech, but also an insult to millions of followers of his positions and news".
