More than 6,300 people apply to become a garda following age limit increase.

Over 6,300 people have applied to join the Irish police force, An Garda Síochána, up from 5,000 in the previous recruitment campaign held a year ago. The increase is attributed to the government's decision to raise the entry age limit for Garda trainee applicants, previously set at 35, to 50. More than a third of applicants, approximately 2,300, were aged between 35 and 49. The annual recruitment drive aims to enhance the number of gardai to 15,000, targeting Irish people living abroad.
