Stacker report identifies 10 Michigan counties, mainly in the north, with the highest cancer rates; factors include economic, social, environmental, and employment aspects.
A recent report by Stacker, using CDC data, has identified the ten counties in Michigan with the highest cancer rates. The 10 counties are predominantly located in the Northern half of Michigan and a cluster of seven counties, including Montmorency, Oscoda, Alcona, Roscommon, Ogemaw, Iosco, and Gladwin, have notably high cancer rates. While many factors such as economic, social, and environmental factors, as well as certain industries of employment, contribute to these high cancer rates, the exact reasons remain unclear.
