Study shows long-term benefit of brain stimulation and physical rehab for stroke patients, maintaining improved arm/hand control for one year.

A new study found that a combination of targeted brain stimulation therapy and intense physical rehabilitation can restore control of an affected arm or hand after stroke. This marks the first time brain stimulation combined with rehabilitation therapy for stroke is available outside of a clinical trial. Stroke survivors who combined brain stimulation with intense physical rehabilitation maintained these improvements for one year. This could set the stage for further advancements in recovery from other impairments beyond the arm, offering hope to stroke survivors.
