Libyan delegation reopens talks in Beirut to investigate 1978 disappearance of Lebanese cleric Moussa al-Sadr and explore Hannibal Gadhafi's potential release.

The Libyan delegation, according to Lebanese officials, reopened talks in Beirut this week focused on the fate of a prominent Lebanese cleric who vanished in Libya decades ago and the potential release of the late dictator Moammar Gadhafi's son who has been held in Lebanon since 2015. The discussions are intended to reignite a dormant 2014 agreement between Lebanon and Libya for cooperation in the investigation of the 1978 disappearance of Shiite cleric Moussa al-Sadr. The cleric's survival is believed by his family, while most Lebanese presume that al-Sadr, who would be 94 now, is deceased. The late Libyan leader's son, Hannibal Gadhafi, has been held without charge in Lebanon since his abduction from neighboring Syria, where he resided as a political refugee.
