Expeditions Five, a Maui-Lanai ferry, ran aground close to Maalaea Harbor; insurance is arranging for a salvage plan; no pollution was reported.

The U.S. Coast Guard is responding to a passenger ferry that ran aground in waters off South Maui. The 55-foot vessel, named "Expeditions Five," had three crew members on board and was stuck about 500 feet from Maalaea Harbor. The hull is intact and the vessel is not leaking fuel. The Coast Guard plans to wait for the next high tide at 4 a.m. Tuesday to see if the ferry can be floated off the reef. The owner is working on a salvage plan to save the ship.
