Michael and Marjorie Cawdery were stabbed to death at their home in Portadown, Co Armagh. Paranoid schizophrenic Thomas Scott McEntee pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has apologized unreservedly for failings in its handling of incidents preceding the murder of Michael and Marjorie Cawdery. The couple, both age 83, were stabbed to death at their home in Portadown, Co Armagh, on May 26, 2017. Paranoid schizophrenic Thomas Scott McEntee pleaded guilty to manslaughter and received a life sentence. The PSNI's apology comes after a coroner found that the deaths were "entirely preventable." Chief Constable Jon Boutcher stated that it is essential to learn from this tragedy and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
