32-year-old Graham McGuinness, with 53 previous convictions, admitted to causing serious harm to Martin Reilly by repeatedly slashing and stabbing his face with a homemade shank in front of a city centre Garda station. McGuinness had initially been charged with attempted murder, but the State accepted his plea in June. Reilly sustained a deep jaw injury and was left with lifelong scars.
