New Zealand's MPI finishes first phase of sheep shearing investigation, finds animal welfare breaches.

The New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) has finished the first phase of its investigation into alleged animal welfare breaches during sheep shearing, reviewing 235 video files and consulting various stakeholders. Concerning instances of animal mistreatment were identified and will be the focus of the next phase. Potential actions could include prosecution. MPI is also working with wool sector groups to establish an oversight body to improve animal welfare practices in the industry.
