Sinn Féin senator Paul Gavan won't re-run after party snubbed him and ally Daithi Doolan.

Sinn Féin senator Paul Gavan will not seek re-election in the Seanad election after the party left him and councillor Daithi Doolan off its list of hopefuls for the Labour Panel. While both were nominated by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU), Sinn Féin only endorsed Chris Andrews and Maria McCormack. Gavan stated there is nothing to gain by contesting, but Doolan plans to run with ICTU's support.
