Chinese SMEs hold 73.5% of domestic invention patents, showing growth in innovation and collaboration.

China's small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are increasingly active in patent innovation, with 73.5% of valid domestic invention patents held by enterprises as of November. In 2024, 75.3% of SME-held invention patents were independently developed, up 3.9 percentage points from last year. The industrialization rate of these patents reached 55.1%, a 3.6 percentage point increase. The China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) is promoting collaboration between SMEs, universities, and research institutions to further enhance SME growth through patent commercialization.
