Ottawa schools to replace over 20 play structures, costing up to $125,000 each, funded by the school board.

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board will now fund the replacement of aging play structures in over 200 schools, as about one in ten structures will need replacement within five years. Costs have risen from $60,000-$70,000 before the pandemic to $125,000 now. The board's facilities department will manage the program, relieving parent councils of fundraising responsibilities. The board plans to standardize play structures to ensure equity across schools.
