Alberta passes bill limiting public access to government documents, raising transparency concerns.

Alberta's government has passed a bill that introduces new exemptions for public access to government documents, including those created by or for the premier, ministers, and the Treasury Board. The bill also extends the time for responding to freedom of information requests to 30 business days and allows bodies to dismiss requests deemed "not reasonable." The Information and Privacy Commissioner, Diane McLeod, warns that these changes will reduce government transparency, though the government denies this.
