Poland erects fence against migrants from Belarus, faces criticism over force and rights abuses.

Poland has built a metal fence along its border with Belarus to stop irregular migration, creating tension between authorities and human rights groups. Polish soldiers patrol the area, accused of using excessive force against migrants. Since 2021, thousands have tried to cross into the EU through Belarus, which Poland blames for orchestrating the influx to destabilize the EU. Despite the fence and new surveillance, over 28,000 migrants have crossed by mid-November, with rights groups reporting increased violence and at least 88 deaths. Poland plans to spend over 2.3 billion euros on further fortifications.
