EU irregular border crossings fell 38% in 2024, but surged from Belarus and Russia.

In 2024, the European Union saw a 38% drop in irregular border crossings, reaching its lowest level since 2021, according to Frontex. This decrease is attributed to efforts against smuggling networks. Despite this, there was a 192% rise in crossings from Belarus and Russia to 17,000, and increases on the Eastern Mediterranean and Western African routes.
