A South Korean court convicted a 26-year-old man of dodging mandatory military service by deliberately overeating to appear obese, which led to a non-combat role in a government agency. His friend, who planned the scheme, received a six-month suspended sentence, while the man got a one-year suspended sentence. In South Korea, all able-bodied men over 18 must serve in the army for at least 18 months.
