A 30-year-old North Korean defector was arrested on October 1 after stealing a bus and attempting to cross the Tongil Bridge to return to North Korea. He had defected over a decade ago and cited difficulties adapting to life in South Korea. The man rammed into a barricade despite warnings from soldiers and was found not under the influence of substances. South Korea currently has over 34,000 North Korean defectors, many of whom struggle with adaptation challenges.
