Turkey now generates enough wind and solar power to meet annual household needs, up from nearly zero in the 2000s.

Turkey's Energy Minister announced that the country now generates enough electricity from wind and solar to meet annual household needs. Renewable capacity has grown from nearly zero in the early 2000s to over 31,000 megawatts today. Electricity demand has risen by 4.4% annually over the last 20 years, reaching 335 billion kilowatt-hours. Turkey aims to increase its wind and solar capacity to 120,000 megawatts by 2035, requiring an investment of nearly $80 billion.
