A large barge got stuck on a sandbar in the Thames River, near Norwich, but was freed with help from tugboats.

A 240-foot barge named "Mighty Quinn," owned by Cashman Dredging and Marine Contracting, got stuck on a sandbar in the Thames River near the Naval Submarine Base in Norwich on Monday. The US Coast Guard was alerted and contacted the operator. Tugboats assisted in freeing the barge, which was reported to be almost clear by 6:45 p.m. The Coast Guard's marine investigators will determine the cause of the incident. No injuries or immediate dangers were reported.
