U.S. sees record low in veteran homelessness, down 55% since 2010, but challenges persist.

Despite persistent issues, the number of homeless veterans in the U.S. reached a record low in 2024, with 32,882 veterans experiencing homelessness, down 55% from 2010. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) helped nearly 48,000 veterans find stable housing in fiscal 2024 and over 133,000 in the last three years. The VA's "Housing First" approach, combined with federal grants and supportive services, aims to end veteran homelessness. However, challenges remain, particularly for women, LGBTQ, and older veterans.
