Walmart closes 11 underperforming stores, plans 12 new "neighborhood market" openings and 650 store remodels.

Walmart, the largest U.S. retailer, will close 11 underperforming stores in October, primarily in California, with additional closures in Ohio, Colorado, Wisconsin, Georgia, and Maryland. Affected employees can choose to work at nearby locations or accept severance packages. Despite these closures, Walmart plans to open 12 new "neighborhood market" stores focused on groceries and pharmacy services, along with remodeling 650 existing stores for modernization.
