South African Revenue Service (SARS) found no negligence or liability in an alleged taxpayer profile hijacking case, which involves a Sandton-based ICT firm losing a R20m tax refund. SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter stated the crime indicates pervasive cybercrime with global links. SARS is working closely with banks and the Office of Tax Ombudsman to enhance processes and identify system weaknesses.
