The Indian Income Tax Department launched the e-Dispute Resolution Scheme (e-DRS) to streamline and expedite income tax dispute resolutions, reducing litigation and offering a more cost-effective resolution for taxpayers.
Under e-DRS, taxpayers can opt for dispute resolution electronically through Dispute Resolution Committees (DRCs), if their disputed amount does not exceed ₹10 lakh and their income for the relevant year is below ₹50 lakh.
DRCs can modify orders, reduce penalties, or waive prosecution within six months of receiving an application.
Applications must be filed within one month of receiving the specified order.
