Transgender high school students seek support from school staff more than families, study shows.

A study in JAMA Pediatrics found that transgender high school students are more likely to seek support from school staff than their own families, with depression and anxiety-stricken trans teens being 74% less likely to approach parents for help compared to cisgender children. Transgender students face increased risks of bullying, skipping school, feeling unsafe, and mental health issues such as depression, self-harming behavior, and suicidal thoughts or actions. The study highlights the importance of adequate training for school staff to support transgender youth.
