29-year-old Stephen Patrick Doherty admitted to fraudulently claiming to have cancer and raising £3,280 through a GoFundMe page, which was set up by a friend. He spent the funds on a dog and attending Liverpool football matches. Doherty surrendered to the police and was sentenced to an 18-month probation and 100 hours of community service. He was also ordered to pay £250 in compensation to the page creator and £400 to the Foyle Hospice.
