Nigeria plans to save over ₦10bn at COP29 by implementing cost-cutting measures and reducing wasteful spending.
Nigeria's Federal Government aims to save over ₦10 billion from the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP29, by implementing cost-cutting measures such as cancelling payments for a showcase pavilion, reducing consultancy and subcontracting fees, and implementing a climate accountability and transparency portal. These measures follow an audit of COP28 expenditure that revealed wasteful spending, including unnecessary delegate attendance. The government plans to use a delegation office within the conference complex and a time-slotting system, costing less than 10% of the previous year's pavilion expenses.
