Study links work-related stress to increased risk of atrial fibrillation in 5,900 Canadian office workers.
A study in the Journal of the American Heart Association links work-related stress, including high job strain and effort-reward imbalances, to an increased risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) - a common type of irregular heartbeat. The research, involving 5,900 Canadian office workers, found those with high strain had an 83% higher risk, while effort-reward imbalance alone increased risk by 44%. Combined factors led to a 97% increased risk. Addressing workplace stress could be part of preventive strategies, benefiting both employees and employers.
