The US Department of Defense mandates baseline cognitive tests and blast safety measures for military personnel.

The US Department of Defense has mandated new measures to protect military personnel from brain injuries linked to blast exposure. These measures include baseline cognitive tests for all new recruits across all DOD services, and directing troops to maintain distance from blasts during training and operations while wearing protective gear. The change comes after a bipartisan bill was introduced in the House to address concerns over blast-induced injuries. Troops were previously only given baseline cognitive testing before deployment, but the new policy requires tests as soon as possible for new recruits, with active-duty troops receiving them by 2025.
