British Columbia provincial court judge dismisses small claims case between lumber company Top Quality Lumber Ltd. and fence building firm H & R Fencing, as both companies were involved in an "unlawful scheme" to evade GST and PST payments. Lumber company's principal admitted to taking cash from customers to avoid taxes. Judge declined to award any cash sum due to seller's responsibility to charge and remit taxes. Both companies participated in the underground economy, with insufficient legitimate record-keeping.
