New York State begins wildlife oral rabies vaccination program via aerial bait distribution in August.
New York State, in cooperation with NY State Dept of Health and USDA Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service Wildlife Services, launches a wildlife oral rabies vaccination program. Low-flying planes and helicopters distribute bait pellets in August, with baiting in Jefferson County, and starting on 17th August in Erie County and Western NY. People must not touch the tablets and should call the NYSDOH Rabies Information Line if contact occurs. Baits are designed to dissolve harmlessly if not eaten by wildlife.
