Gwinnett County health officials warn about multiple rabid animal attacks, including a raccoon attack, urging pet owners to update vaccinations.

Gwinnett County health officials warn residents to be vigilant after a rabid raccoon attacked a dog, testing positive for rabies and marking multiple rabid animal attacks since mid-January. The rabies virus, transmitted to humans and pets through bites and scratches from wild animals, is nearly always fatal if untreated. Gwinnett County officials urge pet owners to keep their pets' vaccinations up-to-date, as unvaccinated animals exposed to a rabid animal must be quarantined for four months.
