South Carolina Police Chief Perry McAlhaney was arrested and charged with third-degree assault and battery for attempting to cut down a tree containing a hunter he believed was trespassing on his neighbor's property. The hunter had paid for a hunting lease, which gave him access to the property. McAlhaney admitted to the action during an interview with state agents and was booked at the Hampton County Detention Center.
