IIT Kanpur researchers visualize Duffy antigen receptor structure, aiding in novel therapies for malaria, Staph infections, and HIV.

IIT Kanpur researchers visualized the complete structure of Duffy antigen receptor, a protein on red blood cells and other human cells, using cryogenic-electron microscopy. This gateway for pathogens such as malaria parasites and Staphylococcus aureus can lead to novel therapies for drug-resistant malaria, Staph infections, and HIV. The discoveries in Cell journal could pave the way for highly targeted therapies without side effects.
