1896: French Dominican friar Louis Henri Didon created the motto "Citius, Altius, Fortius" for the modern Olympic Games.

French Dominican friar Louis Henri Didon, who was friends with Olympic founder Baron Pierre de Coubertin, created the motto "Faster, Higher, Stronger" for the modern Olympic Games in 1896. The Latin version "Citius, Altius, Fortius" was previously used at St. Albert the Great School in Paris, where Didon was principal. Born in 1840, Didon entered a seminary at nine and later became a priest.
