British Columbia bans single-use plastic shopping bags, restricts hard-to-recycle plastics in food service, charges for reusable bags, and prohibits disposable plastic utensils.

British Columbia has banned single-use plastic shopping bags and is restricting businesses from providing certain hard-to-recycle plastics in food service. Businesses must charge a minimum of $2 for new reusable bags or 25 cents for new paper bags. Food service businesses have been prohibited from offering disposable plastic utensils, with some exceptions. The ban also includes oxo-degradable plastic packaging, which contains chemicals that break down into microplastics. To support businesses in transitioning, PVC film wrap usage is allowed until 2028, and polystyrene meat trays until 2030.
