Ontario Premier Doug Ford has directed the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) to reinstate paper bags for customers, reversing the reusable bag policy implemented in April. Ford stated that every expense counts for struggling families and criticized the LCBO for charging customers for reusable bags instead of offering free paper bags. The LCBO initially announced that phasing out paper bags would divert 2,665 tonnes of waste from landfills and save over 188,000 trees per year. The LCBO has confirmed it will take steps to reinstate single-use paper bags, though a timeline for their return has not been provided.
