New York's first female Fire Department Commissioner, Laura Kavanagh, announced her intention to resign after two years in the role. Mayor Eric Adams praised her for improving the FDNY's technology infrastructure, increasing health and safety funding, and promoting a diverse workforce. Kavanagh will spend the next several months helping with the transition as her replacement is found.
