The OECD has classified New Zealand as a "red tape country" due to its regulatory barriers, as its quality of regulation has declined from 2nd place in 1998 to 20th in the latest PMRI report. Minister for Regulation, David Seymour, calls for regulatory reform and emphasizes the need to cut existing red tape, improve scrutiny of new laws, and enhance the regulatory workforce's capabilities to boost productivity and improve living conditions for the people.
