White House closes China loopholes, imposes 25% tariff on non-melted/poured Mexican steel, 10% on Mexican aluminum.

The White House is closing loopholes that enable China to avoid US tariffs by exporting steel and aluminum to the US via Mexico. President Joe Biden will sign a proclamation ensuring steel from Mexico receives duty-free benefits if it's melted and poured in Mexico. Importers must also share information on the origin of their steel products. The new tariffs will apply to steel not melted or poured in Mexico (25% tariff) and aluminum (10% tariff).
