Ecuador's court has ruled that pollution violated the rights of a river running through the capital, Quito, based on an article of the country's constitution recognizing rights of natural features. The city government appealed the ruling, while the court mandated that a plan be developed to clean up the affected river, the Machángara, during the appeals process.
